02ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY

Environmental & Quality Management

Recognizing the importance of environmental management, K-LNG complies with international regulations such as MARPOL to prevent water and air pollution. To respond proactively to ever-stricter environmental, safety and health regulations, we have built a foundation of service quality on par with the world's leading shipping companies, based on our ISO 14001 environmental management system certification.

  • WATER POLLUTION

    Water Pollution Management

    • Going beyond international regulations such as MARPOL, we keep our ODME, Oily Water Separators, Incinerators and Sewage Treatment systems in optimal condition and operate them lawfully so that not a single drop of pollutant is discharged into the sea.
    • All vessels separate waste by type and lawfully incinerate it or deliver it to shore reception facilities, while household waste is managed under the 3R campaign: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
    • To prevent ballast contamination, we exchange ballast in the open ocean in accordance with the Ballast Water Management Plan, and prohibit the use of paints containing TBT (tributyltin).
  • AIR POLLUTION

    Air Pollution Management

    • Company policy requires the use of equipment and fuel oil that meet international convention requirements on SOx and NOx.
  • QUALITY

    Quality Management

    • We have obtained ISO 9001 certification to satisfy customers through quality assurance.
    • Our e-Management System simplifies shore and sea operations and improves efficiency, and processing all work through the system prevents omissions.

03SAFETY & HEALTH

Safety & Health Management

We protect people and ships through systematic safety and health management
covering operating systems, safety culture, inspection, training and performance management.

  • 01

    MTIS / VIS

    Vessel Operation Management

    • With MTIS and VIS, our shore and sea e-Management Systems, vessel operating status, maintenance plans (PMS), history, crew, safety information, purchasing and schedule data are shared among shore, ships and partners.
    • This raises efficiency and enables a rapid response in emergencies.
  • 02

    FMS

    Vessel Position & Weather Monitoring

    • A web-based FMS (Fleet Management System) monitors vessel positions and weather in real time.
    • We consult on early weather avoidance and optimal routing to secure both safety and operational efficiency.
  • 03

    SAFETY CULTURE

    Safety Culture

    • We run in-house improvement activities such as SUPEX, CAN meetings and a suggestion system.
    • Through shore and sea safety and environment committees, we build a safety culture that identifies and removes potential causes of accidents in advance.
  • 04

    INSPECTION

    Safety Inspections

    • Under the ISR (Integrated Safety Rating) system, shore Safety Inspectors regularly check about 250 items and follow up on corrective actions.
    • Through intensive ship visits, Superintendents check the operating status and maintenance history on every voyage, and inspect vessel condition with a Safety Call before critical operations.
    • Vessels carry out their own inspections and audits through Ship-self ISR and Ship-self Audit.
  • 05

    EDUCATION

    Safety Education & Training

    • Sea staff receive new-hire training, pre-boarding training, onboard OJT and face-to-face training, and strengthen their skills and teamwork through BRM and ERM courses.
    • We supply audiovisual training materials (VideoTel) to all vessels and regularly provide onboard training by professional training institutes.
    • We regularly conduct joint shore-sea emergency response drills and statutory drills such as those required by SOLAS.
  • 06

    MEASURES

    Safety Performance Management

    • We select Safety Performance Indicators to gauge our safety level and provide motivation.
    • Personal injuries are managed with the LTIF and TRCF indices of the OCIMF guidelines, and property damage with the LTA(O) index, the annual accident downtime per vessel; we set and achieve targets every year.
    • We encourage safe operation through awards for LTI-Free achievement, excellent vessels, accident-free vessels, outstanding seafarers and On-Time performance.
